Hi everyone,
Well have been trying all week to get some nice shots of this one but the humidity and fog kept beating me everytime. Around 2-3am thick fog would roll in and spoil things with the occasional sucker hole to get a quick shot through. Last night was the best and managed a good 30 min window to get some nice deeper shots in. I have also added a shot from the 28th which shows how much the Ion tail has changed over the last few days.
Always amazes me how quickly the tail strucure can change day to day!

Ok first is from this morning 31st Jan and is a 10min exposure @ iso 400 and the second one is from the 28th Jan with just a 4 min exposure @ iso 800 with 8" newt and 20D.
cheers and thanks for looking!

Very well done Gary,
This mornings effort seems to indicate quite a change in activity, both tails very clearly defined.

Top stuff.

Excellent detail there for single images. The darker skies you have are a real boon :)

Wow they are awesome. How come the comet didn't move in that time?

Thanks Trevor, Scott and Mike! Yeah dark skies really help as the tails are rather faint.

It`s not scooting along like Boatini and other recent ones. In the 4 min sub there is barely any elongation at 900mm. The 10min sub shows the nucleus as twice as long as it`s wide but it`s not very noticable.
cheers Gary

Stunning shots! :eyepop:

Very tempting to get backout and image this guy again when the clouds go away :)

Such short exposure too, single 1 and 4 minute shots. Wow.

I like the different shape of this comet.

As usual nice detail and beautiful colours captured there Gary. Thanks for showing (and showing newbies what to expect and giving some idea how to shoot)

Thanks again everyone!

Unluckily I didn`t capture the tail separation event.
cheers
