View Full Version here: : Remote shutter release for Pentax DSLR

After holding my finger on the shutter release on "B" for 30 sec plus, Eric thinks - better organise a shutter release cable! :D
Surely I can make my own. Would anyone kindly tell me (and show photo?) of the plug that goes into the remote shutter release socket (the Pentax "CS-205 cable switch" according to the K100D manual). I'm hoping it is a simple "mono" plug (looks like 2.5mm, such as attached photo?) and that shutter release is achieved by shorting the signal and ground together.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Eric
Have a look at my post converting a Canon TC-80N3 remote release to Pentax *istDS (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=16477). It is a 2.5mm stereo plug; autofocus and shutter release.
Cheers

Thanks Dennis - bit more complicated than I thought, but I'll work it out.
Edit: That's fantastic - just what I want. Thanks.
Erick by now you should know to ask me first :P
I have here for free a remote you can have :)

Martin, so much you've sent my way so far, but I had wondered what else you had I could relieve you of! Thanks, I'll pick it up sometime. Eric :)
ps. Don't tell me you have a microcomputer-controlled interval timer I could have as well ;) :D
NP :)
That is called laptop :P

OK, I have challenged my son (Comp Sci graduate) to build and program a design I located via Dennis' post. He's thinking about it.
ps. please see PM on SCP re organising to get the cable.

Hi Eric, Dennis, all,
I made just such a device about a week ago using an old
RS-232 programming lead (every tech has dozens of these on
hand) and an old white board marker for the shell.
I could have made you one at the same time Eric!

Thanks Steve. Mill has the immediate answer for me. But I will build some cheap form of interval timer as well. Timelapse of clouds looks like fun!

All good!
A perfect project for PIC microcontrollers.
LCD screen, keypad etc...
