More data is always a good thing....(and if the subject title is a little cryptic for our younger viewers...Mr Ed was an eloquent Sitcom horse ;) )

Noise tamed reasonably well, but not silky smooth yet....

That's exquisite, Peter...so detailed!!!. Geez, add some RGB to that and you'll have a masterpiece:)

It speaks for itself! I like!

Thanks

There is actually data from two scopes in the image...which proved to be a challenge to stack, the field curvatures of the two instruments was different.. ie match the centre but not the edge....

For those who are interested, John Gleason (http://www.celestialimage.com/page129.html) has a great body of work done in H-Alpha.... Colour is nice, but B&W has a certain elegance factor...

Very nice Peter. I do agree with you. Color is nice but B&W can make an object look totally different.

Well done.

Verrrrry, very nice Wilbur!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

What was the other instrument? Must have been faster to get that deep for a mere 160min - else you've stretched it pretty hard (or both?). Looks like you've sneaked some Lum in there as well to see that much of the refelection component of 2023 (?)

Bring on the colour!

Cheers, Marcus

Wonderful image. peter, as we have come to expect. I see Mr Ed is a bit of a dark horse these days.

OK, that wouldve been easy for you , nice to see the verticle streaks, in my twisted mind its a kind of indicator its been done properly :D.

Top work

The Ha fairly lights up the HH but also adds a real 3 D perspective to the gas clouds around the nebula.
Lovely photo Peter.

Very nice Ha data, I think you have the contrast/brightness just right.
Sweet!

Thanks again to one and all for your positive feedback on this one.

Marcus, so many questions. My AP130 F6 was the main other scope, running at F4.5...but I also layered in just a tad of RC14 data around the Horse (OK, that makes 3 scopes...Mr Ed can count better than me :) )

No luminance photons were captured or hurt during the making of this image.

Colour? Colour you say? Aye carrumba.. :)

Although, yes, its been done to bluddy death and maaaaany times ...this is indeed a very nice Ha Horsey Peter  The use of different scopes makes me jealous...cause I have only one now ...although I do have the 80ED guide scope....:confuse3:

But it's such a cool patch of sky..... that I rarely get to image due typical crappy Sydney weather from October through Feb.

Streuth...I haven't even managed to get a half decent M42 as yet... Maybe, one day ;)

Wonderful image Peter, the nebulosity behind the HH reminds me of ocean waves rolling in with the spray coming of the tops.

Lovely depth as well, very fine work.

Pretty cool. Looking at it, it just reminded me that I need to keep adding data to mine too. I've got already 4h on it but not even close to the details you're getting. Top stuff.

Thanks Marc (& RB and Ric). What camera are you using?

Great image Peter. A classic.

Did you use Photoshop to blend in 2 scope's data or Registar? Gendler often used multiple instruments and so does Thomas Davis.

I have a lot of older data now I'd like to blend in with newer data when useful. I was thinking of Registar.

Self guiding with Ha? Do you use fairly long guiding exposure times?

Greg.

I use a QHY8 cooled CCD 6MP on a Celestron Nexstar SLT 130. Here's my current attempt to date (just a bit over 4h from Liverpool) still noisy though.

What a stunning piece of work.
Its masterpieces such as this that inspire others to have a go.
And yes, I well remember Mr Ed on our black & white telly.

Excuse my ignorance Marc...but is it a colour or mono chip? . (their web site indicates it is colour....in which case the result you are getting would be normal, as very few pixels are gathering h-alpha light)

strongmanmike

Weeeeeell... if you notice Marc, as good as it appears to be, Peter has only posted his version at half the size of yours, your image is excellent and would look juuuuust about as good as Peters at 1600 X 800 also, I am sure.

You're right Peter. It's an OSC so I keep only the red channel and because of the bayer matrix RGGB the red looses a bit of res when resampling. Your pic is really crisp. I wonder if binning 2x2 would be better coz I know it gets rid of the bayer matrix and I end up with approx. 1500x1000 pixels pic. But then again CCD Stack debayering is supposed to compensate for this and minimise the loss of resolution.

multiweb
04-02-2009, 06:37 PM
:) nah... the details are in there regardless of the res.

Peter Ward
05-02-2009, 11:37 PM
Ok Ok.

I've made a full res crop you can click on 'till your heart's content :)

Ah knew some badgering would win in the end :D

I take it that's the FOV you enhanced with the 14.5" RC data from last year?..can see the diffraction spikes .. not that there is anything wrong with that though, looks good :)

Ok baby steps huh?...we want the whole shebang man, comon post the lot, let us have a swim, promise not to steal the data and use it, promise... dare ya

Mike

Peter Ward
06-02-2009, 11:44 PM
Picked it in one.... (that data is 2 years old now).... the spikes were problematical, hence there is only a smidge of layered data there (about 10%)

As for the whole shebang..... Nah... you'll have to wait for the 16x20 print ;)

And no-one can talk to a horse of course......

(many hours in front of the B&W TV watching Mr Ed)

Damned fine Ed in progress there Peter. Wilbur would be proud!
