Here is a pic of 4 birds ( don't know which species ) from about 5-6 blocks away using my Panasonic/Leica DMC-LC5 4 megapixel simply pushed to the eyepiece.

Also a modified version using paint shop pro 7.

The sesecond picture you posted lookes like a Rainbow Bee Eater.
The first picture looks like a Hooded Robin,but according to my bird books are not located in Townsville but further west, but it is possible that the are further from their normal habitat.

nice pic of the bee eater, not many birds with that much colour near me - they've all been chased off by these big black *******s!
