Moon Phases

Here are some of the Moon Phases I have taken over the last Months.

I have taken them with Meade 4500 ( 4.5 inch Newt. ) and a small Digital Camera ( Canon IXUS70 ) using the AFOCAL method through an 18mm ED eyepiece.
Due to the size and portablility of the scope, its been easy to pick it up and move it around very quickly, and enabled me to image the Moon for many nights in a row.

I got some very detailed shots some nights, and some not so good. But I thought it'd be worthy of a post to show what can be done with very basic Equipment, and a great deal of enthusiasm.

Very impressive.
I am struggling with afocal Moon photography using my very new SW 8" Dob and a 5 year old Panasonic DMC-FZ3 digital camera. I have tried using a tripod with the camera but I am clumsy and the reults have been poor.
Could you please show me how you hold/attach the camera to the eyepiece?

Yes I did it with Paintshop Pro 8.

I still dont have a full Months worth of images, I am 6 short, but this is a start.

Hi Peter,
Stick with it mate, it gets easier as you learn, It took me ages to get some good images.

All I used was an adaptor that attaches to the eyepiece and then allows the camera to attach to itself in front of the eyepiece.
Below is a few photos of the adaptor and the way in which it fits the telescope. The adaptor I got locally from Erina.

Hi Geoff,

This is very impressive work indeed and as you say, with very basic equipment.

This really is an excellent example of what can be achieved, especially in this year of astronomy. I am sure many will look at this that have never dabbled in astro imaging and will be inspired to have a go.

Thank you very much for the comments.

You are correct, it doesnt take much " know how" to get started and with an emphasis on putting some added enjoyment into our hobby with not much of an outlay in dollars has been a real bonus for me.
