Brisbane Sky Needle is coming back to ruin the night sky

Just saw on the Brisbane Channel 9 News (Sunday 25th) that Stefan, Steve Arkerie is going to the Brisbane Sky Needle to work again as a 150th birthday present for Queensland.

If that means , it will be like when in was operating in 1988 during expo 88 to the late 90s there will be a light house beam scanning the Brisbane skies every couple of minutes the Brisbane skies. Plus it appears it will include a laser light show.

This will destroy the night sky .And this in the Year of Astronomy.

We must do something to stop this.

He is also a power boat racer. I wonder if I dump my waste into Moreton Bay and it gets sucked into this boat's engines would he be happy. This is exactly what he is doing to our telescopes.

I heard about this around 6 months ago, and at the time the statement was that there would be multiple lasers. I know that I am not impressed.

Another thought, how is going to make sure his lasers wont hit a jet or shine into someone's eyes?

I wonder will this allow us mere mortals to use our green lasers to provide nice light shows, or has Stefan some way of ensuring his beams don't hit someone in the eye on Mt Cootha / Mt Gravatt etc lookouts and cause an accident/injury. Perhaps bring a plane down over the suburbs - nonsense I know - but rules will be rules Wally, but will they be equal for all? Will Stefan have to apply for approvals/licences under any new scheme the Qld govt introduces, or is entertainment exempt or will it just be rubber stamped by captn Bligh because it's under the guise of a 150th birthday present to Qld?

Unlike the late 80s the area around where this thing sits is now
full of multi story residences .. I would be pretty peeved if this thing started bouncing lights off my bedroom wall through the evenings.

I walked past that monstrosity every day for a few months. :mad2:That is disgraceful - but like so many people nowadays, they dont care about natures best ever light show - our night sky!! Like when city people move to an outer suburb for a bit of peace and quiet, they suddenly demand street lights so they wont get mugged, have to have spot lights in garden, and now it seems they are going for laser light shows.
Perhaps a letter to Brisbane Council as well. They would have to approve it - wouldnt they??:shrug:

I take it then Brissy aint a good place for astronomy anytime soon then.
I feel for you people up there facing glowing skies from the urban sprawl now you will have this thing ..........Does it get any worse?
