Huge Fireball from Lake Eildon

Did anybody else sight this? It occured at 11:23PM on 22/01/09. Unfortunately we missed seeing this meteor ourselves but I had the camera setup to take consecutive images and found this upon looking back through the frames.

Checked heavens-above to make sure it wasn't an Iridium flare, which it isn't...just a huge fireball...can only imagine how bright it would have been had we seen it with our eyes:eyepop:

Taken with my Canon 400D with Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm. 22 sequential frames have been stacked on each other to create the startrails effect.

Craig ... i think thats because of the drought. Lake Eildon is loooooow at the moment - we used to go camping there as kids and was a gorg place, tho prob still is. Correct me if wrong.

Lucky bugger! good catch! would have been great to see.
Have seen some beauties over the last few years that cast shadows almost as bright as a half moon but the camera was always pointing the other way!

Good to be back :) Yep just setup for a night sky time lapse...wanted the Southern Cross and Carina regions to be rising up over the trees. And yeah, could not believe my luck when going through the frames later on and found this.

And regarding the trees, Liz is spot on Lake Eildon is pretty low at the moment, so you see those kind of trees everywhere near the banks.
