Hi all,
I am presenting this with the authority of Ron Gibson of Sirius Optics, Underwood, Brisbane.
On the morning of Wednesday 21st January 2009 Sirius Optics was broken into. Below is a list of telescopes and accessories that were stolen. Many of these items had serial numbers that are recorded at the shop. If you have any suspiscions that an item offered to you could be from this list would you please contact Ron at Sirius Optics on (07) 3423 2355 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Well, if nothing else, at least we are getting a slightly "better class" of thief these days.
Time was when they just knocked off tellies and dvd players.
Not much consolation though, if you're the original rightful owner.:(

Well I suppose they, the robbers didn't count on us lot to keep a look out, 5000 potential Astro Police.

Hope Ron was insured. And he has a state-wide lot of look-outs to report anyone who took the scopes etc. Its a shame that this sort of thing goes on.

have to keep a close eye on astromart and ebay, not to mention some of the other astro vending sites - oh and here of course.

Keep an eye out for scopes with tampered with or missing serial numbers.

A suggestion, maybe someone could set up a register of stolen equipment. The register could include description of items, serial numbers, date and location from where the gear was stolen from, so that anyone can keep an eye out for the gear.

Also, I know this would impose on the people who have done nothing wrong, but make it a requirement to include serial numbers (where available) on items in the for sale sections.

That's an excellent idea Brendan, It's a specialist market and it would definitely stuff up the plans of these low lifes.
