... one of my fav sci fi shows is Battlestar Galactica. I just got the most recent series on DVD. Watching one of the first couple of episodes and there was a scene where there was a window in the background and I could quite clearly make out the constellation Orion in the stars out the window. If I could figure out how to take a screenshot of it I'd show you I'm not crazy.

Anyway, that tells me they must be close to finding Earth, at least within a galaxy or 2 :)

Since Orion is in our Galaxy and the constellation would only be recognisable if it was viewed from Earth or very nearby our solar system - they should be able to see earth if they looked out the window !

Yes, you do sound like an astro-obsessed geek! :P

ps. it's only make believe on TV, sorry!

We're a sad lot here.
I even look for constellations when they show the night sky on the Simpsons.

Got the Movie and the first 2 seasons of BSG. Don't know if I'll bother with the rest unless they've dumped that blonde bimbo with the cleavage. Spoils the whole show as far as I'm concerned. Nope I ain't a prude, just like my SciFi to be a bit more believable, legs and mammaries don't sell anything to me.
That aside, I also look for familiar constellations in SciFi movies :)

Oh come on... what about Seven of Nine!?
If you say no I'll break out the 'g' word :D hehe.

One of these days I'm going to have to watch BSG, never seen a single episode but keep hearing high praise for it.
Wanted to watch it when it was on TenHD but didn't have a HD tv or set-top box.
Even a self confessed sci-fi hating tv-guide reviewer here in Perth said good things about it some time back.

Well, with a few exceptions. Jerry Ryan, Marina Sirtis, Gates McFadden, Terry Farrel. need I go on

BSG is a good series, gets you right in and eager to find out what happens next, but I find the "imaginary" bimbo spoils the flow of the strory line.

LOL - that's got to be the quote of the year so far.

I kind of know what you mean, but hey, they're legs and breasts - even bad ones are good, and hers aren't bad anyway! :)

Wonder what the odds are of finding another random configuration of stars somewhere in the universe that would display a "duplicate" Orion, if seen from the appropriate angle?
I'm thinking that it would have to be an odds-on favorite, wouldn't it?

Always been partial to some of those Klingon girls myself. :D

Still haven't seen an episode, but while picking up series 1-4 of "The Wire" DVD's today, I espied the cover for BSG, with the blonde on it... does nothing for me either.... is she anorexic? All bones.

Jeez guys, hard to please much? :) She's got more muscle/meat on her than some of the waif actors these days.

Anyway, I wasn't talking about her. Back to the stars...
