Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the galactic waters...

I just can't help but find new things in this data set

I was happy to be able to reveal these recently discovered (2002) features in the halo of Centaurus A.

Info and link to an article can be found under the image (600k):

At first I thought I had discovered some spiral structure

Not bad for a 6" telescope though huh? :D

Mike
Is there anything else buried in this data.....:confuse3:

Very well done Mike.
You should be very happy and proud of these images.:D

Have you looked for globular clusters?;)

:D

interesting comparison, i suspect the big telescope have applied some type of morphological operations on it and remultiplied it back into the image, if you had access to the same software i reckon it would be more evident as light is still light and they have just collected more of it, its the processing that has revealed it..

As a quick play around, get the original data and apply the photoshop shadows highlight filter seveal times and play with the radius setting.... it does some strange things at a low setting (under 20 pixels ) you may have to play a bit to see if it does much.

Already working on that one

Mike

I did try the shadow highlights filter in a basic fashion Clive but couldn't really get it to improve the visibility of the arcs much but I had another play this morning and you may be on to something with doing several iterations..but gotta go to work now, stay tuned :D

Try the sponge tool set to saturate 5% and rub it on the areas you think may have data.

Or set it to dodge 5% to lighten them (although its already very bright).
Perhaps set it to burn to darken it.

Greg.
