A Solar Eclipse occurs when the Moon passes in front of part or all of the Sun, which casts a shadow over a certain area of the Earth. Observers in North and West Australia are well placed to view a Partial Solar Eclipse on the 26th January, 2009.

Prediction for the first solar eclipse of 2009. The annular eclipse will be visible from the Indian Ocean and western Indonesia. A partial eclipse will be seen from the southern Africa, Madagascar, Australia except Tasmania, southeast India, Southeast Asia and Indonesia.

Looks like Sydney is going to miss out on this. Eclipse begins 20 minutes before sunset in Sydney means its going to be a non-event.:mad2:
