Hi folks,

I have seen some fantastic shots referring to widefield on this forum...

Even though this is not real wide field I had a go with my Orion 80mmED in the area I have been working on lately.

20DA with 10 x 60 second exposure's ISO 800 on the Orion 80ED 600mm FL unguided.

The image did not reduce well through compression so here it is also reduced by over half and compressed to a 400KB file.

Tony, you're quickly becoming the master of the unguided shot....Nice work; it's almost tempting to send my 20D away to have the filter changed......:confuse3:

Stunning work Tony,

Amazing amount of detail for a non guided image.
That camera rocks,:cool:

Did you use mirror lock and a cable release?

Nope....No mirror lock, NO noise reduction, NO flat frames..nothing...just straight 60 second exposures...

You have to use a cable release for longer exposures as the camera will only do 30 second exposures.

Come to think of it I dont know why I didn't use the mirror lock...I suppose its not as essential for wide field.

Nice Tony.. though it looks like the black point was set a bit too high, looks like maybe some faint details were lost. The background just looks a bit too dark/black.

Otherwise a great shot!

Thanks guys.....even though its great to hear the feedback from you guys its also very educational hearing faults....Thanks Mike....I always feal the back ground should be Dark...I will learn.

Geez Tony you got some detail in that shot , ive had a go at it but its beyond me to get it right but its a shame you didnt get a dark frame , why dont you try this program for dark frame subtraction http://www.mediachance.com/digicam/blackframe.htm and image stacker for a master dark frame

Nice to see M20 and M8 in the one shot. I have been thinking about getting the Orion 80ED as a finder scope, to double as a good scope for viewing wider fields. Do you use it much for wide field visual observing? How do you find it?

I use the Orion all the time for wide field viewing and just for educational purposes so I can find target without the GOTO.....nothing better then throwing a 14mm or even a 28mm eyepiece into a scope with 600mm focal length.

It will be my guide scope once I get things sorted.
