More sky from January 19th!

Well, for me anyway.
My next door neighbour has a huge gum tree that blocks a good 30x30 degree part of my viewable sky, including the Southern Polar region.
The tree is in his yard, but half of it is over our yard, so we get tons of leaves and branches in the yard and on our metal roof, which promotes rusting. Being on our Southern fence, it also provides no shade, so it's all bads and no goods.
But, on January 19th it's getting cut down!! It's had borers for a few years, and he's finally been advised to remove it before it falls on our roof.
Best part though, is that I get an appreciable amount more sky to observe! Yahoo!!

yer dont nead big trees in your yards there dangerous in storms
i to am loosing trees im on acres and it is in the middle of bush council saya my asset protection zone is 40 metres around my house so new thursday 20 more metres around house is coming out heaps more sky

I wish some borers would get into the gum tree next door as well (I wonder were I could find some of those):shrug::wink2:. The thing is over 20m high and drops leaves and branches all over the roof as well as blocking off a large portion of the sky. Also each time there is a storm we worry that it (or a large branch) will fall on the house.

Good to see someone having some luck in getting rid of a pesky tree.

Here in Queensland the Fencing act of 1958 (yes thats the one we work to) states that any branches crossing your boundary from a neighbouring property may be removed (at the point of boundary) without notice to the neighbour and here's the best part, if you dont want the branches or material you can simply drop it over the fence, it isnt yours to dispose of if you dont want.

I had a couple of slash pines on my boundary and nothing would grow under them, I hated them but they were technically on my neighbours property, she refused to do anything about them when I made a reasonable request so I had an arborist come in and remove all branches from my side of the trees, I disposed of the branches (a pile bigger than our house I might add) even though I could have dumped them on her property, the funny thing was it made the tree's so heavy on one side she was forced to have them removed as they started leaning towards her house. Sometimes I think justice can be served. I now have a much better view of the eastern sky from my backyard too.

i have only moved into my house just over 2 years ago on an acre property so i dont have that problem with trees yet they are all still smaller than me AND THATS SMALL :lol::lol:
