Got my new memory card for my 20D today..

An 8gig Compact Flash. In RAW mode, that gives me 845 shots.. More than enough I think? :)

Makes a nice change from the 1gig i've had for years with the 350D.. even that was 110 raw shots.

The ridiculous thing was the price! Something like $12 off ebay, came from Hong Kong.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the 20D and will only address a maximum of 2Gb.

I'd be also be running some tests on the card before trusting it for your precious images, cheap cards from Honkers are notorious for having bad bits, poor transfer rates etc.

At $12 you can't really go wrong, unless you lose shots that are irreplaceable.

You know what they say about storage .. your usage always manages to creep up to fill the media quickly :)



Not bad. I feel a bit silly spending just a little over $100 for a fast SD card recently, given that my camera (450D) bottlenecks USB transfers at ~8MB/s anyway. Found that out too late, oops! Cheaper cards in future!

It'll be handy for my NZ hols later this year, when I'll be travelling with just the 40D for three weeks.

You might want to be a bit careful. I've read and heard of plenty of dodgy CompactFlash and SD cards from Hong Kong -- some of them are flashed to show that they've got more than twice the data that they can actually hold.

A friend of mine bought a 2 GB MiniSD card from Hong Kong for $10. I advised him not to do it and to spend the $40-odd dollars and buy it locally (this was over a year ago). He didn't listen. He got the card, it lasted about 3 days before it fizzled. :)

You get what you pay for.

i am useing a 8 gig in the 350 and 20D, and in my pentax K10D i am using a 16 gig sd card

I've been using my Sandisk 8GB card with my cameras for a v.long time and no issues yet.
I love the convenience of almost 'unlimited' space on the CF to shoot anything I want but you have to remember to delete and format once in a while LOL.

Just be careful of the cheaper cards, I wouldn't trust just any brand.

Also, I'm sure you know already, but it's a good habit to format the CF card in camera, not just delete the images via your computer.

Also I find the 8GB capacity ideal because if you happen to get a memory error or corruption on your card you may loose a LOT of images if it's a full 16GB or higher card.

I like having extra cards rather than one larger card.

I've taken about 100 photos in burst mode on the 20D, and so far the memory card is working ok.

Unfortunately though, the (cheap hong kong) battery charger I ordered off ebay isn't doing as well. It burnt itself out and so now I have no charger and no full batteries!
