Hi guys

I'm keen to give my new second hand 20D its first light, so i'm looking to do some photography this week (i'm still on annual leave).

Probably a sunrise or sunset expedition somewhere local?

Anyone keen to come with me?

I've got a non-astronomy friend or two also into photography who may join us too.

Maybe tomorrow morning sunrise or tomorrow evening sunset? Although if others have to work tomorrow maybe we could do it tonight or next weekend?

Tomorrow and Tuesday are bad days for me, workwise.
I'll keep in touch and see if I can join you at another time.

So are you keeping the 20D for terrestrial?

I haven't decided yet, but most probably. I love the feel of it. I wanna give it it's first real workout.

I would have loved to have the company, but I am back to work tomorrow morning, Mike. Hope you get some clear weather and are able to take some nice shots.

Well this morning I went for a sunrise/dawn photo session out at Avoca Beach. The beach itself was completely uninspiring and there were terrible sodium lights lighting everything up with a horrible yellow tinge.

So I drove a bit further around to the rocks on the head and had a bit more fun there. A lovely sunrise with some fisherman.

I filled up my CF card with photos and have no space left on this hard drive to transfer them yet but will clear off some space and process a few in the next day or two.

I've also almost expired the battery on the 20D and at this point in time I have no charger and no spare battery (hopefully they will arrive in the mail today, I bought some off ebay) so until I get them I'm pretty much done.

Anyway so far I love the 20D. Will post more thoughts once i've processed some images.

I'm still keen for some company for a photo session later this week so if anyone is keen let me know.

Like a good perspective on the setting sun like Tuggerah Lakes, Lake Macquarie, East side of brisbane water like Davistown or Saratoga. Could also try the Kincumber Mt reserve.

Yeh not tomorrow :) Maybe Friday? Lake Macquarie would be good - haven't been there.

I've done Long Jetty too much :)

Squids Ink has a great public wharf at Belmont is good. The Yacht club on the water front is also a great place. Would be happy to go and do some sunset shots on either Thursday and Friday.

Andrew, I've got a few people interested in coming.. 1 definite.

So we'll need to firm up the location where we're going to meet..

So where abouts is it? Google map it for me :)

Hi Mike
I suggest the waterfront at Squids Ink Belmont. Usually has swans swimming in front and a public wharf I have never seen people on that looks great on images. The Wattagan Mountains in the distance with a good sunset looks great as well. Best time for sunset imaging at the moment is between 7:30 and 8:30.

Another option is the waterfront a little further around the bay just after Belmont shops http://maps.google.com.au/maps?ie=UTF8&ll=-33.035759,151.658514&spn=0.007016,0.013905&t=h&z=17
Maybe meet in Belmont between 6:00-6:30 have a look at the places and decide if everyone likes. Gives time to drive around the bay slightly if needed.

Sounds good Andrew - we just need to define a meeting place in Belmont (a park or car park?), and which day - Thursday or Friday.

The weather for both days seems about the same..

aim for Thursday and if the weather looks crap we can change to Friday.
Belmont Macca's carpark perhaps, on the Pacific Hwy?

Given the lack of sun today for a sunset shoot, we've decided to go to Sommersby Falls.

Meeting in the carpark at 6:30pm.

I may be able to come along Mike "if I'm a good boy and finish all my work in time".

So you mean the car park at Somersby falls right?

Well RB, iceman and Myself went to Somersby Falls this evening for the photo shoot. Andrew had not been to Somersby Falls and I Think he enjoyed what he found. We spent a good 90 minutes taking images and wandering around the falls. We all agreed that we needed more time.
It was great to be with other people who enjoy taking Landscape shots and I look forward to doing it again.

Agreed - it was great to catch up. Thanks for the company, guys.

Next time we'll park outside the gate so we can stay for longer and not get locked in :)

It's gonna take me days to get through the photos - i've still got a backlog from Birubi Beach and Avoca to get through!

Andrew (Hector) and Mike, thank you so much for your company, I had a lovely time.
I'd never been to Somersby Falls, it was a beautiful location indeed, I've always wanted to visit and I wasn't disappointed.

Looking forward to seeing all your shots.
I won't get a chance to process mine today, I'll be taking the kids to the movies.

Looking forward to meeting up again.

Cheers

:)
