why do you take photos of the night sky?

hi .i thought I'll see what other people do with there photos of the night sky they take. do you sell them? do u frame them? are they for research? are they a memory of what you have seen?
what do you do??

Research...for memory...fun (because it's good to do)...as a challenge...many reasons.

It was something so far beyond me that I had to try it...
I enjoy the community that comes from showing photos..the chat etc...
plus it is a great way of adding to your observation experience.
It is like many things you feel you can get better at it if only you did this or that or had a new this or that....
Most of all because these days I can.. I have some gear and a dark site and most of all a life style that allows me to stay in bed for a couple of days recovery if I do a couple of all night runs ...

But in many ways it makes little sence when you can jump on the net and download Hubble images which in most cases are better than we get...well all cases they are better I guess...

Like to see more of what I view, large aperture is the go for general viewing but if you don't have the space or money for a big scope then imaging gives you an insight.

It's also challenging and rewarding if you take an image an it turns out half decent.

It is, as said a very rewarding and fun past time science dosn't come into it all, it is purely because I can, and enjoy it.

I have been asked if I sold any of my stuff, and the answer is, no I would rather give it away to anyone who is interested.

i thought I'll say why i am going into it. i think its great to keep a memory of what you have seen and enjoy the time taken to get your result. always great to see something finished that you have played apart of. i was shocked when i was able to take a picture of saturn with a little digital camera held at the eyepiece and see the result.:eyepop:

I think i am getting into it because my eyes arnt sensitive enough to capture colour and i know there is colour in the things that we see. I would love to get into a bit of the science of it all, by doing things like spectroscopy, but i belive that will come into the fold when i get a decent dark site and the money to get all the correct bits and pieces.!

As for selling it nahh, ide rather give it to people, as previously mentioned why would anybody go and buy your print when they can get a hubble picture and print that??? sall good

Same logic to fishing. Why would you spend half a day;spend on rods and baits etc.when you know you can guarantee a bigger one from your local fish market in no time even cheaper? Because you enjoy the process and sense of satisfaction.
To capture an image is the same as to capture a fish.
