Saxon binoculars 30x80 for $299

Does anyone have experience with this binoculars?
Would they be good for astro viewing?

I have 12" Bintel Dob and would like something for very bright objects in general.

Hi Bobson,

they'll probably be quite good quality, although you'd definitely need a tripod/mount as they'll be too heavy to hold steady for more than a few seconds at 30x.

Also, at 30x mag and only 80mm aperture, they won't have as wide a field of view as 20x for example, - and they also may produce quite a dim image on low to medium brightness targets.

I have a pair of 20x90's from AOE which are a delight to use - on a tripod mount :D

30x is a bit high . Better of with 20x80s.

I saw 20x80 on the same website but from Bushnell and Konus (Vue). Are they good brand and which is good brand for 20x80 (90) binoculars.

Hi Bob,

yep, they're the ones. Although they were on special at $249 when I bought them. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page to see mount HVT11, I got that at the same time. It's rock solid and essential I'd say.
But these items are excellent products.

I like binocular viewing so much that I went on to buy the Oberwerk BT100-45 (http://www.oberwerk.com/products/100bt45.htm) as well.

i forgot to mention that many of the AOE products are their own brand. So I guess they're just a re-badged something else. But I've only ever heard people praise both AOE for their service, and their products themselves. So that counts for a lot in my book !

I have the Saxon 20x80 ones and they are terrible. From my own experience they are the worst large binoculars I have ever looked through. I cannot get the two eye pieces to match up on focus.

Maybe I got a bad set but I used to have Helios 20x80 and they were great. I recon you get what you pay for with binoculars.

Sorry if this sounds bad but I thought I would put in my 10 cents on them as I have a pair and what I have found with them. I would not want someone else to get a pair and the same happen to them.

Thanks mate, thats exactly why I asked, I really appreciate your opinion.
Paul gave good marks for AOE binoculars and now if I am about to buy one I would go for AOE 'cos of that. I bet Andrews and AOE got the same supplier, maybe GSO?

Bob one thing I learned is that you need to spend some time using a type of binocular. Try before you buy.

Are you happy with the field ov view in them
Do they feel comfy when held up to your eyes
Do they have any shadows bouncing around in the field of veiw when looking through them.

If i could give one bit of advice that would be it. Try before buying.

I bought AOE 20x90, and I have to say that they are GREAT!

AOE proved to be very professional and I would highly recommend them.
