Hi all,
Been awhile since I posted an image, so I thought I'd better catch up!
Found a galaxy in Sculptor at Mag9.1 that I thought would be an easy target... But I soon realised the size of the galaxy meant that the surface brightness was actually Mag13.3 ! Distance is approx 10.7 million light years.
Not many bright star neaby so focussing and guidestar hunting took an age.

Anyway I got something and it's a cool little galaxy. Love the bright pinpoint central region, and knotty apperance of the arms.
I'm gonna have to rip the little Red filter out of my 300D one of these days. This image lacks a good colour balance. A LPR filter would probably help too.

Cheers
Rob

Thanks Tony,
For this time of the year you can't beat NGC253. Nice and big and bright. I did it a few weeks back http://www.star-mate.com/temp/ngc253.jpg

I love seeing some of the less well known objects. That's quite a shot Robby, for something 10.7 million lya.
