Here's my latest image of The Sydney Opera House which I did recently on a visit there.

I like combining a lot of exposures when doing HDRs of static objects and try and keep the colours as natural as possible while still trying to show a wide dynamic range and capture as much detail as possible.

It's a combination of sixteen exposures using the Photoshop - Merge to HDR function.
All were taken with the 24-105mm L at 47mm and at f/4.0 and ISO 200.

It's a real challenge to get the colours right and still make them look natural when you're dealing with such a wide exposure range and dynamic colour range.

In order to capture the fine dark detail, you need to overexpose to the point where the frame looks almost white.
Also to capture the very bright highlights/detail, you need to do a very quick exposure where the frame looks almost black.
Then expose for everything in between and combine it all and try and keep it all looking natural.

Not easy to get it right including White Balance.

I chose this 'side on' view because you can see so much more detail, even straight into the Opera House, especially when you view the full res version.

Hi Andrew,

Wow! Like your previous Opera House HDR, technically excellent! I really like it!

Though I have to admit, I would choose yours for a glossy text book on 20th
Century architecture but would choose Humayun's recent image for the
"Come to Exciting Sydney" advertising brochure. Both are great.
For me, your one says "Look at my lines" and Humayun's says
"Don't you want to come and explore inside?" partially because you
do see more of the interior. What do you think? :)

Both would look great framed!

I still remember the wonderful work you have done and am in awe of your talents.

And you're right, I was aiming for a particular look, endeavoring to capture as much detail as possible, hence the reason for the 16 exposures and the side-on angle.
