I had a visitor pop by for breakfast this morning. This Rainbow Lorikeet stopped by for about 30 minutes for a quick meal in my bird feeder, And was quite happy even when my 300 F/2.8 was pointing at him at only 1.8m away..

I got a lovely set set of shots, this being my favourite of them all... Shortly afterwards a parrot of some kind came by, however he was much more skittish, and flew away the moment I picked up the camera...

Canon 1Dmk3 + 300 F/2.8L @ F/8
Hand held, ISO200, 1/500th

Thanks for looking.
Alex.

Hi Alex,

A nice shot of a very colourful character; the morning light is quite nice and the catch light in the eye adds a sparkle to the photo.

Merry Xmas!

Alex,

You lucky so-and-so. That's purportedly Canon's sharpest lens, along with the EF 85mm f/1.8L II.

Well done!

Regards,
Humayun

I can attest to that Humayun.. Its sharp enough to shave your face with! noticeably sharper than either the canon or nikon 70-200 F/2.8.. I dont have the 85 F/1.2L although it would be a nice lens im sure...

I dont have much at the shorter end of the canon spectrum, as my canon setup is mainly all for sports/wildlife and action shots.. The I have the nikon 50 1.4, and 85 1.4, both of which are VERY sharp lenses, but still not a pinch on the 300 2.8L

We used to have bottlebrush trees out the front of our old place, and when they were in flower, the cockies used to go berserk in them!! Lorikeets of all descriptions...it was just one huge screech fest:eyepop::D

Funniest thing I've ever heard a cocky say was one time I saw one sitting on a power pole. He must've been a feral bird because this guy who was walking past heard him screeching and told it to shut up. The cocky told him to "F" off!!!!!:eyepop::eyepop::D:D.

There was also another one in a house near where I used to live that used to swear at people going past it's place. He was fond of telling the postie where to go!!!:eyepop::eyepop::D:D

about 3 weeks ago Matt.. I was talking to a mate of mine who's a professional photographer about wanting a 1d mk2.. He mentioned that he had a mk3 which was given to him when he left his job as a farewell present.. It'd only done 12,000~ shots at that time.. He has a 1Ds Mk3 of his own, and didn't require the frame rate of the 1Dmk3.. So he offered it to me at slightly higher than I was considering paying for a 1Dmk2 :) I was pretty stoked to say the least...

What a great friend.

Man, I'd love to get my hands on one of those. Looking forward to see what you can do with it. :D Some more birds in flight images perhaps?

I've been giving it a good run this past week... lots of birds (I posted a duck lifting off somtime last week take with it)

There is more coming, Just got to find time to process them all... Burst firing at 8fps gives you MANY pictures to edit!! :D
