I'm starting to really like this camera, after my first attempt with Orion (M42) and helpful suggestion with gain and offset setting - gain 01 offset 110 was used on Orion, this is my attempt on the Horsehead and Flame.

Dated: 22/12/08
Location: Toongabbie NSW (heavy light pollution)
OTA: WO FLT-110 f/7
Filters: Baader Fringe Killer + Moon & Skyglow
Subs: 17 x 20min
Gain: 1 and Offset 58
Captured: Nebulosity2
Processed: IP 3.50a

Didn't check the framing properly

Always looking for improvement, comments welcome.

Question: How do you do star diffraction spikes?

Cheers

Pretty cool Eddie. It came out really nice from a light polluted environment. You might try 600-900s subs. That will help with Alnitak and LP. I hear people sticking fish lines on their OTA to make diffraction spikes. Otherwise there are a couple of PS plugins/actions lying around if you google them.

Very nice - I presume this is the QHY8?

I'm "across the road" from you in Kings Langley so have the same issues with LP and need to use a filter to help. Maybe the background is slightly clipped? But I've done that too with bad LP and not enough subs.

You can do the spikes artificially with Noel Carboni's tools.

May have had a few things against you but you have produced a very pleasing image.

Well done.

Thank you for your kind comments.

Have found Noel Carboni's tools, will give that a go.

I dont think the fringe killer would really be needed with the FLT110.. I might be wrong. but I wouldnt think it would have fringes to be concerned about

Pleasing result indeed!

Very nice.
Next clear night that I'm not working I want to see if I can catch a glimpse of the horse head.

Nice Eddie, how get diffraction spikes?, really easy, buy an RC (for the natural effect of cause) ;-).

you could do diffraction spikes in the way fred described, or you could make a mask for the end of the scope, that has fishing line creating a cross in front of the lens... This creates very natural spikes that are quite pleasing in the right situation...

According to Baader doco, combining Fringe Killer and Moon&Skyglow will block mainly yellow and orange light waves which is great for heavy light pollution area.

Don't know what RC is, appreciate if you can give me more info on RC.

Cheers
