I have a synscan V3.2 on my eq5 mount. I want to upgrade to a Heq5 so is there any way of connecting and using the synscan on the heq5 standard mount instead of buying the Heq5 pro with synscan.

regards
Kon.

It might well be possible - as long as you get the HEQ5 with Syntrek. Syntrek is the version of the HEQ5 with the same motors as the HEQ5 pro, but without the hand controller. (syntrek comes with a simpler controller) Since you have the hand controller, you can probably just plug it in, and turn it into a HEQ5 pro.

You would need to ask the retailer first if the HEQ5 they sell comes with Syntrek. Some come with the older motors, and in that case you will need to spend $600 to get the motors and hand controller.

Thanks Tim,

Is there any particular model number or serial on the mount that I should look out for.

Not that I know of - but there is a clear difference in the controllers.

This is the syntrek controller:

I think that all new skywatcher HEQ5 mounts are syntrek at the very least.

You will need to double check with the seller/shop before you get it. :)
