Last night the high cloud cleared to reveal an unusually dark and clear Newcastle night sky, LMC visible even before fully dark. Heres 95 mins on the Fornax cluster, with the 6 inch F3.6 SN. MPCC coma corrector, Modded 350D. 19x5 mins ISO 400. No filter at all used, I wanted to capture all light including IR light, as was done here (http://www.astrosurf.com/antilhue/ngc1387-1399-1404.htm) He used no filter for the luminance shot, calling it a "N-RGB"

I had to get up early today for work but who cares if I was tired, I only work part time and wasnt willing to let such a rare dark sky go begging.

The barred spiral top left is NGC 1365

Isn't that a great part of the sky. I shot that same shot on Friday night. I love it. Beautiful shot. Well done.

Nice one Scotty!

You're fitting a fair bit in there excellent. Love the satellite trail too, it actually adds something to the image IMO.

Nice one Scott. Lots of little galaxies fitted into this shot. You would think the satalites could wait till you had finished. I suffer from Melb to Sydney planes and they are brighter.

Nice

Thanks all. It sure is an interesting part of the sky. NGC 1427 is a pecular odd shaped thing, middle right on image

Would be great to see what Strongmanmike could do with one of his ultra deep imaging runs on the Fornax Cluster :)

Funny you should say that Scotty, t'was exactly my project for IISAC but Mike Salway ordered clouds in so we would all drink too much and make merry. My FOV is almost as big as yours too :)

Ah sigh...maybe next year...?

A very interesting image. I wasn't aware that NGC1365 was so close to so many other galaxies.

I started to image this one myself (1365 that is) and was ready to click start when the clouds moved in - oh well.

Now that I look at your image I think I must have had one of these other galaxies lined up not 1365.

Greg.
