Last night was my first night of good observing since I received my LMC and SMC visual atlases from Mati Morel. I was delighted to find these met all my hopes for an easy to use guide to the Clouds which have intrigued me for a long time. Not so much star hopping, but star cluster hopping. Fantastic! I would thouroughly recommend them and the cost is very odest indeed.

It was also the best night of seeing since acquiring my 16" scope from Tim Nott - what joy. Wonderful detail in faint galaxies, buckets of stars in GCs and I could have spent hours just on the Tarantula nebula. Even got to see the Horsehead nebula for the first time.

What a night!

BTW postal address for Mati Morel's atlases is Morel Astrographics, 18 Elizabeth Cook Drive, Rankin Park, NSW

and a sample is can be seen at http://www.asnsw.com/articles/bngc/bngc15.asp

My Morel charts must be 20 years old!
Question: from the review, they now appear to be white stars on a black background.... is that correct?

Mine are black stars on white. They are quite easy to read by red light. Had another very late night last night using them. There is so much to explore that sleep deprivation might be a recurrent problem for a very long time.

Superb stellar chart maker , and a top knotch observer too.

Spent many years back in 1970s observing variable stars with charts given to me by my mate Mati , regularly visiting him at his place to help out with observation programs of flare stars , back in the days when the Astronomical Soc of the Hunter was based at Tighes Hill TAFE.

The work that he put into his comparison star charts to make sure everything was spot on was amazing - the work that he's likely put into these will probably have been stupendous.

I reckon these will become collectors items and will be well worth the investment.

Does anyone know if Mati is still producing the LMC and SMC Atlases and what his current contact/address details are?

These Atlases sound exactly what I am looking for.
