Hi all,

Just mucking about the other night and took a look at some galaxies. I only have access to an ED80 which wasn't the ideal scope for the targets but what the hell I thought.

To help things out the moon (almost full) was rising.

Imaged through an ED80 using a Canon 1000D, 7 x 4 min plus darks.

Feel free to comment, I want to have another go when the moon has gone away. Am I on the right track?

There is plenty to see in the images but they need to be calibrated. Flats and at least bias frames will make a huge diference to your images.
You are definitely on the right track you just need to take the next step.

Hi Doug or anyone,

A quick question from Adam and myself. We are going to take flats by setting the camera to AV and pointing the scope towards the zenith at dusk and shoot sat 10 of these and then stack in DSS??????? i think. But what are bias frames and how do you take these things???

Thanks
Mark and Adam :screwy:

Bias frames are images taken at the quickest exposure your camera can handle. On my EOS-350D, that is 1/4000th of a second.

I don't take them as I see them introduce more noise to my final image.
