Can anyone give me any feedback on the 'Stellar' type of chair which is used during viewing.I find that a normal chair is too limiting as I have a neck/back problem and was wondering if this type of chair would be beneficial? The fact that its level can be altered is what appeals to me.Thanks guys.:help:

Are referring to the adjustable chair adversised by Bintel?

If so, I have one and find it great, but..... While finding a suitable position around tripod legs in the dark is a minor issue, weight is something you should consider. The seat is mostly a steel alloy, and it does weigh a bit, so it may tease your injuries. I'm a bit physically wrecked too, and find that the value of getting a good viewing position far outweighs the disadvantages.

There are some plans about if you are handy and wish to make your own?

Thanks Greenswale - Yes, I think thats the one I have seen. I have had surgery to both my neck and lower back a few years ago and am trying to find the easiest way to use my Dob. I have purchased a 90deg finderscope which has definately helped but I just cant bend for long periods whilst standing. I'll go have a look, thanks again.

I've seen the plans for the viewing chair somewhere here on the site, in PDF format. Looks good too. I was thinking about using a gas lift bar stool, if I can find one cheap on ebay.

I have a Stellar chair and would be lost without it. Great for getting my 195cm frame down close to the ground for polar aligning and sitting at when doing things on the laptop in the field. Highly recommend it and while the price does seem a bit high for what it is it was a great birthday idea at the time. As far as weight of the chair goes if you can lift and carry your telescope and mount you can lift your Stellar chair.

I think they are great and if you do a search on them here you will find a few other threads relating to them.

They are adjustable to a large degree and very sturdy...they have improved my enjoyment of the hobby greatly.

Having said that, in the spirit of full disclosure, I was originally involved in making these fine chairs available here in Australia.
