Just noticed Andrews have received their 6" & 8" GSO RC stock.

Did anyone have one of these scopes on there christmas list?

I have the 8" and a G-11 upgrade on my hit list, but have to do some O/S travelling with the wife first

I wish someone would buy one of these and post some results :)

At $2.8k for the 8" I'd rather go for the Vixen which has been reviewed by Astronomy Technology magazine as a superb imaging scope

Yeah true, and they will need a focuser upgrade on top of this price if you want to put any substantial ccd/camera on the back.

Astronomics in the States have their 6" at $790USD, which if not for our dollar plummet would have been worth shipping over.

I was thinking that $2800 seemed a bit steep compared to the vixen. It looks very cool though :)

There aren't much details about them or specs yet but for the price it looks real attractive. Nice, compact and light.

mmm, I can understand the advantage of having a 12", 14" or 20" RC but not for only a 6" or 8"? Could buy the vixen or a C 9.25 and have a better scope. Or you could make a real premium newt for that $$$
my 5c worth anyway.

How do u think this will compare to a Tak fsq 106ed ?
Just looking at what might fit on my heq5 pro mount.

The 8" RC and FSQ106 are completely different, one is wide field, one is more narrow field etc etc....

If you were asking which would be the higher quality instrument, the FSQ would win hands down... I've not personally seen the 8" RC, but lets face it... you were seriously asking what wins, GSO or Takahashi... :)

Garyh is right, $2800 on a custom built 10" F/3 corrected newt would provide a much better imaging platform than an 8" F/8...

All this being said.... I'm very interested to see preliminary pics and reviews of the 8" RC... Might be an addition to my gear list in the future... (providing I dont win lotto as planned and buy a 16" RCOS first!)

If I were GSO I'd bring out a 12 inch f4 newtonian. I reckon that would be hard to beat - easy to fit into the car, not too big and great for imaging / deepfield viewing. More work to hog out the mirror but it would be worth it. I'd seriously consider one.

RCs certainly are impressive but they face stiff opposition from vixen I think with the VC200L and VMC260L. Perhaps time will prove the RC to be superior but who will be first to shell out.

Cheers
David
