Found this while trolling the web, done with a 24" scope located in Crete Greece, during excellent seeing, in May this year:

Seeing and focus are jut so important for the icing on the cake... of course aperture helps too :P.

It's worth checking out the "high resolved image" version, the detail in the core is mighty fine!

Wow! Crazy picture. So sharp. Best I've seen on the object. Even the little galaxies poping out in the background have fully resolved cores and spiral arms. :eyepop:

I compared it to the hubble shot... the hubble shot is more green than blue, and shows more of the Ha regions... but overall, if you look at them both at the same scale on the monitor, they are pretty similar in overall detail...
(The hubble one however can be zoomed in so on my 52" screen I can only see the central core, and stellar resolution is INTENSE!!!)
