Hoping someone can confirm my suspicions on this one...

In the Skysensor 2000 firmware, there appears to be no facility to change tracking rates with respect to Sidereal.

Is it a case of when doing a 'goto' to the Moon, Lunar tracking rate automatically becomes effective, and likewise when doing a Goto to the Sun - it starts tracking at solar rate?

But what happens if I just slew to the moon to frame it, and don't actually 'Goto'? How do I set the Lunar tracking rate?

Any thoughts welcome...

I don't own my SS2000 anymore but I don't remember being able to change the rate. I can't see how it matters much. The difference in rates is minimal and it would take many hours for the moon to move out of the field of view and easily corrected with a quick push of a button.

Thanks for that. It might not have various rates then, as you say.

For solar imaging it can be a pain, at large image scales, in that taking a run of a thousand video frames means things can move a bit.

It's a good job everything moves at different rates in nature or we wouldn't have Solar eclipses or occultations :whistle:

Hi Rob

To keep a Lunar feature relatively stationary whilst capturing an AVI with my DMK, I use StarTarg (http://www.andysshotglass.com/StarTarg.html), an on-screen reticule. I then just sit there, like a monkey, pushing the motor movement N S E W buttons to keep a feature on the cross hairs.

Your summation is correct. Upon selection of the celestial body - the SS2K uses that bodies rotation period. So go to a planet or the moon from the catalogue and it will prescribe that oribital rate.

On a general goto RA / DEC coordinates - I presume it uses the last tracking rate it had active?
