Had to travel to find the foreground.. and standing in the middle of the street trying to take a mosaic on a tripod is not the best idea :-)

I wondered what I would come up with too :-) Was inspired by a pic in S&T of a lighthouse. Although I happened to be down at the Gippsland Lakes for a few days (supervising a leader training weekend at Camp Cooinda), I was a very long way from the nearest lighthouse. Bairnsdale was the nearest town but they don't have a clock. I used Google Street View to check out the one in Sale before making the drive. Apart from lingering cloud, my other concern was whether the clock had any lights but I had to be there to find out!

Now "that" my friend..is the money shot!!
Excellent juxtaposition of time keeping and planetary astronomy - simple but very clever
Now had it been Big Ben in London......:eyepop:

thanks mike..
i wish i could have done it with big ben! Flinders Street in melbourne would have been good and normally just a short bike or tram ride away from home, but on the night even Sale was a one hour drive.
see the attached grab from Google Street View.. i think i made this little town clock appear a bit bigger than it's true size :D it also shows how much trouble i had dodging trees, powerlines, street lights etc to get the shot.

Phil, that is a superb photo. I figured that you would have to be a long way back to do that, and your street view confirmed it. I am interested to know what equipment you used, please.
Cheers,
Chris
