Sorry this isn't particularly serious.....

Ok so computer groups are nerds or geeks,
Certain equipment lovers in computer lingo are "fanboys" ie xbox fanboys etc
Sports are "jocks"

But what about astonomy? Astronerds?

Just so I can say I got my info from the forum "insert word here"

:)

I guess I will also see if they have a sense of humour...... :)

My husband calls star parties "GeekFests" and as a generalisation, Astronomers are the "Socks and Sandals" crowd.

^^ lol my bro has a simliar idea of our type.... "looking at boring white dots in the sky" and my dad..... "it's all the same stuff over and over again" sometimes they both do show some interest though, like asking me some questions about astronomy ;)

As funny as I find that statement, I would hereby like to officially announce to all and sundry that I have NEVER IN MY LIFE worn socks with sandals, surely the greatest fashion faux pas that there is.
My usual viewing footwear consists of army boots with no socks.
Dunno what they call us but like the Good Doctor, I think of myself as a "citizen of the universe and a gentleman to boot" (with excellent fashion sense):D

"Lunatics" is obvious, I suppose.
Spacenerds? Scopeniks?
(Do it in the dark, or in the red light district only.)

In Summer, I'll admit to wearing a pair of socks under my sandals to keep the mozzies from biting my toes.
Just don't pull your socks up to your knees while wearing shorts. That just too sad.

Dobslingers

Had an idea for a sticker to put on my dob the other day

"...so, you think this is big?"

proberly not a hit with girls, but it would give me a chuckle when frustrated trying to find ghosts in the sky.

Another sticker idea - Astronomers do it in the dark.;)
Or how about - Is that a collimation tube in your pocket or are you just excited about my 12"?
I've got more, but I can sense the moderators stirring in their dens.

The local paer called me an Astronomist. I often get Astrologer. My wife says I am an Astronomiser - hmmmm miser..... if she only knew. Now that reminds me of the best quote on astronomical equipment I have ever heard (from the recent QLD Astrofest) - when I die I hope my wife doesn't sell my gear for what I told her it cost me.
