Hello,

I received my EQ6Pro today (mount and tripod).
I am a bit confused about setup of the equipment (even before getting it outside!).

The instructions say:
Attaching Mount to Tripod Legs
1. Align metal dowel on the tripod head with the gap between the azimuth adjustment knobs underneath the mount.

2. Push the primary locking shaft up against the mount and turn the knurled knob underneath to secure the mount to tripod.

Step 1 is my problem... The drawing shows a round metal dowel, whereas the "dowel" on my tripod is like a rectangular block. I cannot see how this works... I can see it would might fit in the gap mentioned in Step 1 but i assume a round dowel would be more appropriate. Also, I think it is used to assist in turning the mount in the azimuth direction.

I cannot seem to remove the rectangular dowel to reveal a round dowel.

Any help would be appreciated.

 :(

regards,
DJDD

It is supposed to be rectangular... Separate the two knobs on the front side of the mounts base, Then sit the mount on the tripod, with that rectangular peg up in between the opened bolts... Push the metal bolt/knob up from under the tripod until you feel it make contact, tighten..

The rectangular dowel is used for the Azimuth adjusters to push against (tighten one as you loosen the other), thus turning the base of the mount.

The illustration is in error if it shows a circular dowel...
As others point out, it's just a rectagular boss which sits between the two azimuth bolts. But I assume you've figured that out by now...

thanks, everyone!
it makes sense now. i thought the 'circular' dowel might have had teeth and the azimuth knobs would somehow mesh with it. as you can see i am not mechanically minded! :screwy:

looking forward to getting to it!
