I suppose it's a reprocess of a reprocess.

I was never quite satisified with the original despite the good data.

This is my last shot at it.
Taken with a BRC-250 and ST-X10ME.

Wow, that is superb!

Very 3D and excellent image scale. I just got a FLI Microline 8300 to do galaxy imaging with my BRC250 and this is encouraging as the ML8300 has chip that is a similar size to an ST10XME. I like that image scale.

I'd give you a 10 out of 10 for that beauty.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think you may have lost a bit of fine structure with your noise reduction? :shrug:

Very nice Steve! great detail and colour....bit heavy noise reduction on the outer areas but you might like It that way.

Naah,

Nothing worse than grainy noisy sections of the dim parts of a galaxy. Also it gives the look of its glow area and pushes your attention to the excellent centre area and H11 areas. A masterpiece in my view.

But then we are all different which makes things interesting so thats just my view.

Great job Steve....I'd still recomend trying a version with the noise reduction (Noel Carbones Astronomy Tools action in PS I assume?) backed off slightly just to see what it looks like..?

Noise reduction is very much a personal choice.

I use this technique.

I find applying noise reduction to the R,G, and B channels in Photoshop instead of the final image helps preserve image detail. Low contrast detail can be affected but backing off the noise reduction for each channel helps.

The trouble with having noise in galaxy images apart from the aesthetic value, it can be easily misinterpreted as stellar resolution.:)

I prefer to err on the side of a smoother image.

I also use Noise Ninja which I find very effective and minimal destruction to detail of the image although there is always some. That is the cost.

The only way around that is megadata. That gives you the signal to noise ratio needed to get the faint bits without noise.
