View Full Version here: : Milky Way - Wide Field Image
Inspired by the nice comments you guys sent me about Venus and Jupiter, I set up my EQ mount for tracking and piggybacked the 300D for wide field imaging.
This shot is 5 min, ISO 800, 10mm Lens taken @ 9.46pm - 02 Sept 2005.
Complete with airplane trail.....:)

Wow! That is excellent. You can really see the Milky Way as a galaxy edge on with central hub and everything in that shot!

Very nice image Andrew - well done. Is the image "as is" or did you flat field, dark subtract, etc? to temove the usual culprits of gradients, dust specs, noise, etc.
Cheers

Very nice picture.Colour is good, dust lanes show up well. What was the aperture and the level of light pollution?Just goes to show that 'size' is not important for a very good result.

Rippa shot RB.
Thanks guys,
I was amazed by the detail too. Never had a really good Milky Way shot before.
Mike said: Yes the 10 mm gives a great vista (almost panaramic) view. Also because of the conversion factor of the DSLR of 1.6 you end up with an equivalent 16mm lens.
Dennis:
The image is as is. No flats or dark frames. Havn't mastered that yet but I would like to learn how to do that. :ashamed:
Yes Paul your right it's a single shot.
The aperture was set at f/5.6, avandonk, a faster lens would give better result or at least a quicker exposure. The light pollution was not bad at all but there was some in the south (towards Sydney :mad2: ). This shot was looking towards the South West.
Cheers everyone.

Lovely shot Rocket Boy. Look forward to meeting you soon at Kulnura. How lucky are you to live at Mangrove Mountain!? It will be interesting to see how much darker (if at all) Kulnura is compared with Mangrove Mountain.
Thanks Rod,
Looking forward to catch up with u next time.
Let me know if you guys meet up at short notice or unsheduled and I'll try and come.
I suspect Kulnura might be a bit darker.
