The new Star Trek remake is due May 2009.
Couple of trailers if you're that way inclined.
(trailer 2 the latest and best)

If its Sci Fi, it'll be a must see for me..... :D

I think I can honestly say i have seen every episode and movie, except the cartoon series. If only we could truly Trek through the stars, well I will have to make do with my telescopes for now. SciFI rules.

I've never really watched it, but the director of this new one is a genius filmaker, so i think i'll give it a go.

When i was 14 i had a movie stashed away called S*x Trek - does that count?

I always used to get miffed when people accused me of being a "trekkie" - its just another sci fi series (albeit a good one).

Then I realised one day I'd watched just about every episode (catching up on some missed Voyager currently) :P

Always thought Star Trek TNG was best by far and William Shattner hammed it up too much, but I'm starting to come to realisation TOS was pretty special really. Limitations in time, money and special effects just seemed to spur them on to greater creativity.

Looking forward to this new one - just hope they don't stuff it up. And good to see there's plenty of Enterprise tragics here too....!:rofl:

Have you ever seen the "trekkies" documetaries. I thought I was pretty bad with it, but got nothing on these guys. The first one is hilarious.
It still makes me laugh when I remember being at a public viewing night and this little boy got his first look at Jupiter through a telescope. He said, "Mum, its got moons" Mum said "You should know that, you watch enough Star Trek".

FOR YOUR Information and edification

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (sometimes abbreviated to STS9 or DS9) is a science fiction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science_fiction) television program (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_program) that premiered in 1993 and ran for seven seasons, ending in 1999. Rooted in Gene Roddenberry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Roddenberry)’s Star Trek (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek) universe, it was created by Rick Berman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Berman) and Michael Piller (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Piller), at the request of Brandon Tartikoff (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandon_Tartikoff), and produced by CBS Paramount Television (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CBS_Paramount_Television). The main writers, in addition to Berman and Piller, included show runner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Show_runner) Ira Steven Behr (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ira_Steven_Behr), Robert Hewitt Wolfe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Hewitt_Wolfe), Ronald D. Moore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_D._Moore), Peter Allan Fields (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Allan_Fields), Bradley Thompson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradley_Thompson), David Weddle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Weddle), and René Echevarria (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ren%C3%A9_Echevarria).
A spin-off of Star Trek: The Next Generation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation), DS9 began while its parent series was still on the air, and there were several crossover episodes between the two shows. In addition, two Next Generation characters, Miles O'Brien (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miles_O%27Brien_%28Star_Trek%29) and Worf (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worf), became regular members of DS9.
Unlike the other Star Trek programs, DS9 took place on a space station instead of a starship, so as not to have two series with starships at the same time. (The starship USS Defiant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Defiant) was introduced later in the series, but the station remained the primary setting for the show.) This made continuing story arcs and the appearance of recurring characters much more feasible. The show is noted for its well-developed characters and its original, complex plots. The series also depended on darker themes, less physical exploration of space, and an emphasis (in later seasons) on many aspects of war.
Although DS9's ratings were solid, it was never as successful as Star Trek: The Next Generation, with approximately 7% versus 11% of U.S. households tuning in, according to the Nielsen Ratings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nielsen_Ratings). Although DS9 had a very popular first season, it experienced a gradual loss of audience over time. One factor was the increasingly crowded syndicated marketplace which provided viewers with a number of alternative shows to follow (Babylon 5 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylon_5), Hercules (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hercules:_The_Legendary_Journeys), Xena (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xena:_Warrior_Princess)). Another factor was the minimal promotion for DS9 as Paramount focused its efforts on its flagship network show Star Trek: Voyager (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Voyager). Finally from 1995 onwards, most of the independent stations which aired DS9 joined new networks (UPN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UPN) and WB (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_WB_Television_Network)) that gradually pushed DS9 from its primetime slots into weekend/late-night when fewer viewers were watching. All of these factors combined until original programming for syndication virtually disappeared by the year 2000. Nonetheless despite the increasingly-unfavorable environment, DS9 remained the top-rated syndicated-drama series throughout its run.

DS9 was an exellent series, enjoyed it immensely. The Ferengi (Quark) always reminded me of a particular person who was, until recently, head honcho in Canberra :)

Have a read of this...and plan your next trip to Vegas. We went there several years ago, even my wife and daughter enjoyed it. You can even buy Star Trek uniforms, models, jewellery etc at Quark's Bar, or have a glass of Romulan Ale

Alas you miss the point it's "for those who boldy go there when no one else will"

I was just making the point that DS9 is set in the same timeframe universe etc as Star Trek TNG not necessarily TOS where they said that phrase but in TNG it is not said!!!

Cheers
