View Full Version here: : Please...let the rain stop!
At the outset....let me say this next request is horribly selfish.
But I bought premium tickets to the Gabba Test match between Australia and New Zealand many months ago...and the rain's been pouring down for days and the forecast is for more.
The match is scheduled to start on Thursday. I've booked a week of annual leave to go to this...and I've never gone to every day of a Test match before.
I know we need the rain....and I know many IIS members couldn't give a flying you-know-what about sport...
But - :prey: any suggestions what I can do to turn the heavenly fawcet off?
Hmmmm, well, if you buy astronomy gear and it rains, then the inverse states that if you sell it then the weather will be beautiful!!

You have my sympathies Matt.
This rain is driving me stir crazy.
Hey Alex. We're doing fine. It's actually nice to see so much rain...it's just the timing that sucks!
Ah well. Them's the breaks I s'pose. I'll just enjoy it lashing down on the tin roof when it's time for some sleep.
yeah....I got my own little twitch developin':screwy:
GABBA tests are notorious for being rain affected Matt, if it clears it's going to be a quickies paradise thats for sure.
Hope all goes well for you.
Cheers
Yeah. I know, Ric...but it didn't stop me buying tickets in the hope I'd get lucky.
Anyhoo...it's not like we'll need a full five days' play:lol:
But then...on recent form:whistle:
We might have to bring back the rest day after day 3.

The last few days I've been getting home from work agonising over whether to set the scope up or not. I've been watching whispy clouds come and go and sure enough my predictions have turned out correct ie: I've not wasted my time setting up as thick clouds rolled in each night as soon as the temp dropped a few degrees.

My decision has been a bit easier. Need the windscreen wipers all the way home.-----> don't bother turning the scope on.
Please please please......
Just one clear dark night this weekend.......
(oh, and next Sat too - for Ron's!)

My Nan lives in Burpengary (near Caboulture) and she's had 14 inches in 4 days! Where i live, we're lucky to have that much in a year...
But the skies are blue here too today, so Brissy will hopefully see the light at the end of the tunnel today.
Here's hoping..

So will we have any viewing tonight?
Well, I'm a happy chappie.
We got in pretty much a full day's play...despite the arrival of some more ominous looking skies late in the day.
Roll on tomorrow!!!
I'm going to a Day 2 Test Match breakfast with former player Kerry O'Keefe.
And then to watch the Kiwis try and make a go of that maaaaad Gabba pitch:D

That was another thumper of a storm that just passed here on the eastside of town. Looks like the northside is catching the worst of it now, but nothing like last night. It's still early I guess :(
Yes. We just got belted here at Wynnum.
Sure are some wild storms we're getting.
I remember getting late spring/summer thunderstorms every afternoon/evening many years ago. It does feel like something of a return to years gone by...only these have been particularly fierce.

Hi all,
Umm, maybe the bad weather is my fault. 12 months ago me and a mate convinced the school where we work to buy an ED80 and a HEQ5 mount and then it rained for pretty much 6 months and broke the drought:D.
Last Friday we took delivery of a 12 inch Dob, sorry about that:doh:. Hopefully it won't last 6 months.

Yep... losing my mind... I have grand plans and no clear weather with which to fulfill them... I thought we might get a clear night tonight after such a beautiful day... alas... buckets of electrified rain fell from the heavens, yet again... :(
And yes - the northside copped a fair belting.. Again!

Adam - A 12" dob wouldn't bring this... It might be at fault for some cloud and a bit of the rain... But this....
Whoever just received an Astro Physics, RCOS or Tak setup in Brisbane.... Stand up and face the music (music = death stares from many many brisbane astronomers [and cricket fans :P])
sigh.... I just wanna play telescopes!!

Apparently we are doing it at the inlaws this year. They have a new place at bulimba in some sort of swank new apartment complex, THAT DOES'NT HAVE AIRCON!!! I guess we'll be home early :)
So Matt, how was day 1 of the test match?
Not bad, Ric, especially considering how bad the weather had been.
We only lost about an hour of play.
The wicket proved to be a real challenge for the Aussies. Only Michael Clarke really came to grips with the conditions and played a terrific knock. A shame to see him fall just two runs short of his century.
The Kiwis will have their work cut out for them tomorrow, that's for sure.
214 runs aren't many to defend but they'll prove quite a challenge on a green Gabba deck.
This could turn out to be quite a Test match:thumbsup:
I agree, it has the makings of a tight test that's for sure.
The Kiwi's have a few good batsmen, if they step up it could be very interesting.

I'm pretty sure the Kiwis are used to wet wickets ...
I spent 2 years working there and it rained so much I caught phenomia. :(
