Another Afocal Moon to add to my collection.

Couldnt sleep again, so it seemed like a good idea to image the Moon again.

ISO 80 at 1/50th sec exposure. Taken through a Meade 4.5 inch Newt. on a small EQ mount.
A bit of basic processing to sharpen the image and contrast.

I think I am getting better at this method. ( I hope so anyway )

thanks for looking.

Hi Geoff :)

Great image, nice tones.

I couldn't resist, so I downloaded your image and ran a couple of different sharpening methods on it, and it came up very well with further unsharp masking or straight sharpening in PS. The detail really popped out. Are you using PS?

Nice effort - especially afocally :hi:

I saw the moon this morning but was too lazy to go out. Now I am really peeved with myself, especially with the weather forecast.

Nice shot :)

Very nice shot Deeno :P, especially for afocal !
You could apply a bit more sharpening but you've done well.

How do you mount the camera, do you have a bracket?

Thx Gary.
The clear sky was shortlived and only appeared between 3.30 am and about 5 am . I was lucky to get any..

Cheers

I only use a basic program HP photo plus to do processing, Thats all I have at present.

Cheers.

Hi Andrew, I have a bracket that attaches around the eyepiece and then I screw the camera to the bracket.
Its only very basic equipment but I get a great deal of fun from it.

I couldnt sleep this morning either, so it made sense to go out and scare the possums for a while and take some photos.

Cheers
Geoff.

Hi Jeanette,

Thanks for the translation.

One question though.

How does one see this Chromatic abberation. Is it the coloured adge on the Moons surface ?

Remember you are speaking to a Newbie at this imaging thing.

Thx

Geoff

Here you go Geoff - just a really quick re-work. Nothing too strenuous. Sorry - yeah, "PS" = Adobe Photoshop. The noise has become a little more prevalent, but is mainly removable with a bit of care. Multiple, stacked shots can correct this to a great degree.

Cool moon...
Looks like your "little grab and go" is getting some good use....
CA can be caused by collimation being a little off....talk to Rick, the master collimator.

Also, since Geoff took this afocally, the abberation may have come from the eyepiece...

CA gives a purple fringing around the edges of bright objects.
