One hour wide field 450d Milky Way

2 frames 9 minutes 8 seconds at 1600 iso and 6 frames 1 hour 42 seconds at 800 iso with canon 450d no darks stacked...using original 300d lens with no flat field either///stacked in deep sky stacker, minimal process in zoom browser:eyepop: Milky Way with many recognisable objects:)...

There is so much potential there.

These types of widefield images have become kind of like your trademark.

I really urge you to take some dark frames (and, perhaps flat fields) to remove the noise (and sort out peripheral illumination issues).

Hi Alex,

Thats amazing - no darks or flat fields and heading into summer and long exposures. Obviously darks and flatfields do help but I'm astonished how little noise is evident by what you have shown. (... on the other hand so does extra images). I'm presuming the noise is also not very apparent on the full res image. How was the initial frame on deek sky stacker (since stacking helps too)?

If you are looking to cheat a little you could also use the dynamic background extraction in pixinsight LE (the free version) to help darken the background even further and help with vignetting, not that it looks too bad.

You must be very happy indeed with your new purchase! The colours look great and an amazing shot. Must say it makes a 450D look very tempting.

I agree with Humayun, flats and darks would increase that images appeal.. That being said, its brilliant as is..

I too am color blind (deficient) which makes editing astro images difficult at the best of times.

good to see you getting some deep sky work done, being color blind must be a pain in processing, i assume its Red/green given i think 1 in 4 males suffer that problem.

I stacked a few yesterday...one was 1113 seconds another near that..at 1600 iso, then a couple at 800 of about 400 seconds...anyways my point variying iso s and exposure times and that wonderful deep sky stacker spat out a result... One hour forty minutes all up... I will post it if I dont run out of credit...

AND definetly no darks...actually I will post a single frame of 1113 seconds as well which gives an idea of the sky glow here;)

Processing is not a pain for me because I adjust the colors to bring stuff out and to please me... that may and usually is not what should be done but I like the fun side ... some of the stuff I would not show I expect is very extreme.

It was the first night for ages everything was new to me besides the camera... I was just trying to get an idea of what the camera liked and did not like... anyways I have photo shop installed now so I can practice stuff.

Well done, thats a very nice wide field. The single subs high background also hides the noise somewhat, and theres a fair bit of noise in the stack too. I think you would be supprised how darks would clean it up, even though you got a good result without them :thumbsup:.

What I ment in the previous post was, I thought you had a SINGLE 1hr 42m exposure. Obviously not, its the total exposure time :P.

Did you find a big difference in noise in the different ISO subs?

I actually like the sky-glowed 1113s unprocessed exposure over all others... looks awesome.

To be honest I did not worry..it was more a case it seemed fair,,noise ..even 1600 long exposure was not too bad and the processing ..I had only downloaded deep sky stacker and needed something to run on it..
