G'day! I just joined this forum because I'm keen on getting into astrophotography. Hope I don't ask too many silly questions. I'm looking into getting a mount and drive for my dSLR camera soon, still saving and researching brands, types etc. Look out for the onslaught of questions... :)

Hi Troy and welcome to IIS

AMD72 from POTN here. You have come to right place for advice. Plenty of experts here to help you out. Also - check out the search facility on the forum - perhaps the quickest way to getting some answers.

Also - make sure you share your macro shots in the terrestrial photo section!

Hey all. Thanks for the warm welcome.

And g'day astro_south/AMD72! I was pointed here by a POTN user just the other day :)

I've already had a quick browse and search through the forums. Will do more over the weekend, I reckon.

Welcome to IIS! Im sure you'll find all the answers you're looking for here.

Steve - Cheap astronomy is not how I would describe astrophotography :)

With the aussie dollar as it is, 2k should get you a mount and a guide scope... You'll still need an imaging scope (unless you want to use camera lenses) in any case, you'll find about 15 bits and pieces between $50 ~ $100 that you'll need :) I know I did... I reckon I have at least $1400 in adapters, cables, connectors, extenders, reducers and other nic naks..

Enjoy your new found hobby, and the poverty that comes with it :)

Alex.
