The next new moon is 28th NOVEMBER 2008
The following Deep Sky Objects are visible at 9 pm (10 DST)
Between RA 00 and 02, south of dec +50
Open Clusters
Blanco 1 (90' across and poor), NGC 752
Globular Clusters
NGC 104, NGC 288, NGC 362
Nebulae
NGC 346, also try sweeping the SMC with a UHC or OIII filter
Planetary Nebulae
NGC 246
Galaxies
SMC
M 31-32-110, 33, 74
NGC 55, 253, 300
The faintest objects are N246 and M74.

OC and Neb are common this month; GC and Gxy are in short supply.
Comet Lulin transits at about 1:40 am DST on 25/2 and is 3.5 degrees to the left of Saturn then.

Planetary nebulae are probably the most difficult class of objects to observe because they are small and hard to find at low power. You need to use high power to see them well. A UHF filter is also useful for the larger PN. These PN are visible from my place at 9pm AEDT on 27/3.
