Almost pulled the plug on this one, it is just so faint I couldn't see it in the individual images. I'm sure I only have half of it here but I shot 6 x 15 minute shots at ISO 800 so I'm limited by my light pollution to get more. This is a 50% crop of the full frame which I will also post.

Unfortunately you are hitting an "equipment spec wall" that is pretty hard to breach.

I had a good look at your full res image that can be found via here

This is a tough target for a DSLR/CMOS. While they are excellent tools for wide field/ bright object imaging, dark objects in less than pristine skies are very difficult to capture well.

is a great example of a better tool for the job....

The cynics may cry "Sure, there is always a bigger fish!" but this is not the point of my response.

Sometimes it really is a case of "don't force it...simply use a bigger hammer"

Peter,
I won't argue at all, I didn't even think I had anything on the plates until days after the shot, it is so dim. I didn't even know what it was till I saw this one (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/attachment_browse.php?a=49541).

That particular panther image you linked to is very red. This one (http://panther-observatory.com/gallery/deepsky/doc/NGC2359_F9.htm) is more like the green blue I see in google.

Robin,
Another fine image with a DSLR!
Great stuff.

It is a hard target and you have taken the time to capture it in its glory.

Thanks for the encouragement gents. I really need to record what I'm shooting at in future :)

Was hoping to try and get more of this one but the weather forecast looks crappy for the rest of the month :(

Nothing wrong with Thors Hemet. The oxygen stands right out.

Cheers Kev, but paul is right, any idiot like me can point and click, but you need a bigger hammer than I have to gather the photons from this one. I had a search and of course eric (aka easystyles) showed up with the best DSLR image, IMHO, of the object here. (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/attachment_browse.php?a=35744) And that's with a 10" scope. Maybe it'll be better from a dark site for me but I doubt it :)

I better get tube rings for my 12" dob organised, I sure as hell won't be buying a 14" RCOS any time soon :)
