Seeing: 6
Transparency: 6
Wind: 5-10 knots
Equipment: 15X70 binos/152mm refractor/12.5" newt

Objects viewed.

Lagoon nebula: (12.5" only) Great viewing. @ 66X. After installing the neb filter simply stunning.

Trifid nebula: (12.5" only) Really nice.@ 66X .Dark lanes very prominent with this aperture.

Omega/swan nebula: Best I've ever seen it @ 66X with the filter on. Puts the viewing in the refractor to shame.

Omega Centauri: Oh dear! Simply stunning (no filter) @ 66-318X

Andromeda Galaxy: First look at it this year, worth staying up until 3am to see it. What a splendid object to look at in the binos! With the refractor it was nothing to write home about. Although I did some high power obs. of it's core.

Pleiades: Great viewing in the binos.

Orion nebula: Spectacular in the binos. Nice & bright with nebula clouds well resolved. A nice blue colour.

you obviously would recommend the neb filter, what price and from where?

does andromeda take up most of the guide scope ie 1 1/2 degrees wide as starry night suggests and that with any normal eyepiece (40mm) is just too big?

The baader UHC-S I just got is from AOE....I'm yet to get the bill for it, but I estimate $115..I'll never get rid of it..Theres other filters out their though. Nothing to compare this filter to, but I can recommend it. In my binos it took up exactly half the FOV..In the refractor at 50X I had to 'pan around' to see it all.

Thanks for the report John, Yep I like those UHC filters they bring a lot of neb detail out even at a dark site. That Omega Cent never fails to please and the bigger the scope the more amazing It looks !

Hi Louie, thanks for that. Yeah I was quite amazed at the performance of this Baader filter, even in my dark skies here. Most prominent is the change seen when looking at the lagoon nebula. I think it almost doubled in size with the filter on...It changed it's shape totally as well. Quite amazing.

Yup they work like "magic". If you have a SkyGlow filter, be prepared to be amazed by the contrast and detail the UHC will show you :) I know cause that happened to me....
