Apologies if this is covered in another thread.

ABC is advertising this collection from the BBC. $129.95 plus postage. Any comments/reviews? I haven't seen any of these programs.

Edit: Re the Sam Neill bit, I read:-

"Also called "Hyperspace", this three hour BBC astronomy documentary, hosted by Sam Neill, consists of six self-contained topical programs, each one about 30 minutes in length: (1) Star Stuff, (2)Staying Alive, (3) Black Holes, (4) Are We Alone...?, (5) New Worlds, and (6) Boldly Go.

The photography, visual effects, and computer graphics are stunning. And the sound effects and music are appropriately cosmic. All of which combine to create a production that entertains, and encourages interest in space exploration.

That said, "Space" did not tell me anything I did not already know. There's very little in the documentary that has not been described or explained elsewhere. For adults who keep up with advances in astronomy, these six programs provide only a rehash of current knowledge, in layman's terms.

Overall, "Space" is a technically well-made program, suited especially to kids, as well as to adults who are new to astronomy."

Also found another Oz supplier for $113.50 + $3 postage

Eric, I saw them a few years ago. They were okay, and Sam Neill did a solid job presenting them. I have The Planets and Cosmos, so didn't need to add Space to my collection.

I have the space series in my collection. They are OK. As mentioned already there's nothing really new in there, but what is presented is done well. Its entertaining and worth having on hand for visitors who aren't so into astronomy.:) I didn't think I paid that much for it though:shrug:.

Yeah Eric, I picked that up a couple of weeks ago - The Complete Space Collection - and I reckon it's not bad value.
It contains an 8 part doco called The Planets, 2 docos on the Sun and the Moon respectively, a 2 part doco-drama called Space Odyssey, a 4 part dramatization of the Space Race and the politics and personalities involved and the previously mentioned Sam Neill piece called Space, which is a slight drop in quality compared to the rest of the content, IMHO.
There's nothing new here, it won't change your life and a hundred and thirty bucks is a hundred and thirty bucks.
But let's face it - some nights it just rains.

I bought the box set because I have been meaning to buy "The Planets" set for a while. I also have Space Odyssey and the Sam Neill ones but not the Space Race (which I didn't watch the first time round) or the Sun/Moon ones, so it was worth it for me. I don't mind the Sam Neill ones, in particular I like the one where he talks about the odds of getting hit by some big asteroid and how its a constant gamble of hit and miss out there. I wasn't fussed with them the first time around but a second and third viewing some years down the track brought out their good points, I thought.
