Great day today! apart from chicken crispy sunburnt legs. :screwy:

Today I tested the 350D with stock 18-55mm lens. Definitely need a new lens! The sun was directly overhead and it was a bright day. I just couldnt get the focus, exposure, whitebalance(modded) right. Though out of 500, 1/4 came out ok'ish.

Has anyone been successful with reverting a baader modded camera with a filter lens to utilize auto modes again without needed custom white balance ?

I found it a challenging day for photography too. I think my problems were mostly my position, the course layout which didn't seem to favour my location, and the bright sun. Oh, and the patches of bright grey high level cloud behind my shots wasn't helping.

In hind sight I wish I'd tried using my polarizer to increase the vibrancy of the shots, but I'm not positive it would've helped.

I can imagine you would've had a lot more trouble than I with the standard lens, so I bet you'e done well given the circumstances.

This shot is good, the framing isn't bad and position of the plane good. Also the plane's quite big relative to the wider view, yet you've got a good number of pilons in FOV.

Hey Rog. lol, yes the standard lens was definitely not suited for the day conditions and angles. I often tried using my cap to shade the bright sunlight from above when taking shots and then gave up on that. I often found myself looking around and seeing all these nice lens' other people were using, which made me feel like the odd guy out.. :D

Anyhow, it was a good chance to test out the camera and lens and give me an idea of what the limits were, and what equipment would have better suited. Now all I need to do is find a nice 300m lens or equivalent for a decent cheap price that wont break the bank.

There were a lot of SLR's around and a lot of nice lenses, that's for sure. They've sure become a lot more popular in the last few years. But, I saw a lot of the standard kits too, a real mix, which was good to see. Many much better setups than mine.
