It's amazing what just 30 second exposures will give on NGC 2070! There's a lot of objects in the LMC which are stand-outs amongst my survey images, but this one certainly can't be missed.
10 x 30 seconds.
(sure, not a great image, but that's not the point, the point is what is visible for 30 seconds worth)
:)

Geez... sure is a lot of detail for such a short image! :) I must give the Tarantula a go sometime ....
Nice details. Short exposures work wonders on bright targets. I feel this image is worth adding some RGB.

That would be nice, it hadn't occured to me actually. However with the weather the way it is here in Perth lately, I think RGB data won't make it on to the limited schedule of astro photography :(

Roger,
Looks like a lot of detail and an impressive image scale but 10*30s is 300s really not 30 isn't it.
I assume that was the 12" scope as well and you do not mention the camera used , unmodded DSLR = impressive, high sensitivity, cooled, dedicated astro CDD = less so.
Still I get the gist, it IS amazing what 30s can get these days.

Sort of, I know what you're getting at, but... no matter how many 30 second exposures you do, you're still only going to get detail at the magnitude which your camera reaches in 1 x 30 sec, just you're going to get better SNR on that data. So... my point is, 30 sec (1 or 50) with 2070 I was surprised what "faint" strands of nebulosity are visible.
Yeah, I didn't bother with the details: the 12" with ST7. So yeah, a sensitive combination but still, I was surprised :)
Yeap :)
