NASA's IBEX (Interstellar Boundary Explorer) mission was successfully launched on October 19. IBEX will catch energetic particles streaming from the termination shock - the zone where the solar wind that blows from the Sun suddenly slows down as it slams into the thin, cold gas of interstellar space.

Discuss and post links about the IBEX mission here.

This is quite interesting!
Magnetic Ribbon around the solar system.

It is always interest to find new things in space, hopefully it will gain more of un understanding of our universe.
I wonder if the ribbon is more of a stretch tear or the exciting of particles where the speed of the energy hitting the heliosphere is the fastest. Sort of looks like it but I suppose that is where theory ideas start from.
Worth getting more opinions, on this.
It would be curious the speed of the energy out there and whether motion from solar sails could provide speedy travelling, al-be-it like flying a balloon though.

Very very interesting.
Thank you for posting that Al.
I think the ribbon to the Solar Syatem is like the "elves" to Earth's atmosphere..
