View Full Version here: : Tarantula Nebula | NGC 2070 | 30 Doradus
Hi Guys,
NGC 2070
Vixen NA140 (f5.7)
EQ6
Canon 350D (Unmodded)
Baader UHC-S filter
60 x 1min (ISO800), unguided... Prickly left the guide scope at home  Some usual tweaks in PixInsight and CS3. (However I'm not really that good at processing, still learning).
Interestingly, the image is a bit noisy, maybe due to the warmer weather? The ICNR was enabled but it still seems a bit high - Well more than I expected with ISO800 anyway.

Still a fine image Michael! Another for the album especially unguided.
Lots of images makes a good overall image, you can see that in yours.

Nice result, Michael. Some good detail there and nice colour (not the usual aqua from an unmodded camera).

Excellent work Michael.
You have captured a lot of red data for an unmodded DSLR. All my attempts at the Tarantula have been green/aqua with my DSLR.
Well done.

Some of the graininess might be small stars too. The graininess is not uniform across the frame. Was looking at a photo from another site showing hundreds of faint stars across the image. The pattern of the darker regions matched that from our image.
Here is a link to a superb photo from another IIS member Marcus showing just how many stars there are in the region:

I think the old timers is catching up. Autoguiders work better with a scope to autoguide through. Better to remind myself of that now than at Lostock.

Very sharp and your colors are spot on too. Top shot
Thanks all, I appreciate the feedback.
Depending on the weather, I'll get David to come around this weekend and we will point the NA140 at NGC 2070 again (with guiding this time).
Maybe I should mod this 350D? worth thinking about anyway...

Really impresive. Great colour from an unmodded camera. have you done any adjustments in the colour processing?. Also nice and sharp without guiding. Great nebular detail for 1 min subs. One to be proud of!

Nice shot.
Yes noise is proportional to temperature.
Typical CCDs double noise with every 6 degrees C change or halve every 6 degrees C drop in temp.
I have read that in warmer temps it is more beneficial to use ISO1600. Not sure of the logic now. Perhaps shorter exposure with boosted gain is less noisy than longer with lower boost I imagine.

Thats certainly a profound effect of temp. Mind you if we keep having nights like tonight here in Canberra we can forget worrying about noise.
Perhaps the effect of stacking is relatively greater at higher temps ie. outweighs the gains in noise from longer exposures at lower ISO.
Thanks for that bit of info.
Cheers
