Tried unsuccessfully to get some Mars images last night and in the end turned to some old old favorites before daybreak to ease the pain . Mars is one tough cookie to wrangle anything .....BTW anyone know any trade secrets to ease the brightness of the core of m42

That orion shot is beautiful! I love the colours in the flaring nebula.
Well done!
How long were the shots? The pleiades shot looks likes it needs a bit longer to bring out the faint nebula. Nice sharp stars, great to see these old favs back.

Mike i was running out of time so the Orion shot is just a single 5 min exposure and the Seven sisters 2 minutes {i was trying this effect http://users3.ev1.net/~glennlray/Astro/diffusionB.html} i was testing K3ccd guiding thanks to some good advice from Paul . Thanks Kevin for the link.

Both nice shots beren! without shorter exposure time I don't think you could stop the core from burning out . I took a 30 sec exposure of M42 and It still burnt out the core .
Louie
