Hi all

We had a fairly nice pass this morning, reaching about 57deg altitude. I set my 12" newt up on the EQ mount to start with, and I used Betelguese which was nice and high so I could get focus and set exposure and align the finderscope.

I then shifted the OTA to the dobsonian base and waited for the ISS to appear. I also had the 350D set up on the tripod to capture the wide field view. As soon as I saw it behind the trees, I started the shutter on the 350D and pressed record in IC Capture.

12" newt, 2x barlow, DMK21AU04, 60fps, 1/1667s shutter, 125 gain.

I'm fairly happy with the result, it's all practise for the time when everything comes together. I like the shadow across the radiators - a view I haven't captured before.

Here's a 12-frame animation of the best frames in the pass.

Thanks for looking.

Great capture Mike! You can see that the ISS is getting bigger all the time!

Fantastic animation Mike.

I wish I could have the ability to photo the ISS like you do.
I also enjoy watching it pass, especially when I am with a group of " General public viewers".
Keep 'em coming Mike.

Thanks for all the kind words, guys.

My wife and I watched the Saturday night pass from the trampoline. I would've loved to capture it through the scope, but we had been out to dinner with the kids and only just got home, so no time to setup :(

There's an early (7:20pm ish) pass tonight but the sky will be quite light! Plus setting up during happy hour won't put me in any good books ;)

Narayan the HST only gets to about 10-15deg here I think, so it's extremely unlikely i'd be able to capture anything.

Mike,
well done mate,
the first one is excellent!
I prefer it to the second because it sems a bit less bright and thus seems to show more detail.
great job

Nice work Mike, love the animation.

I would love to see you have a go at capturing the Shuttle docked with it.
That would obviously take a fair bit of planing.

Regards
