NGC2244 Narrowband

Here is my first go at ngc2244. Done at the end of a nights imaging. 30 mins per channel, Hubble mapping but my colour balance. Enjoy. Cann't wait for Summer when this stuff is overhead a a good time.

Firstly great job Ken, a really pleasing image.

I have to laugh because quite often the reprocess jobs people do on other peoples images are actually a backward step but Steve your reprocess is pretty good this time - slightly warmer and more full bodied, nice job :thumbsup:.

Mike is right bluescope I like your version as well. I need to get some more data on this object. I'm hanging out for later in the year when they are overhead at a good hour.
Bassnut I'm hoping to get the red when I get more data.

Astro imaging two step...
step 1 get good data, step two learn how to process. I think I'm further down the track for step one then step two.

As for the Sax if I had a dollar......ha,ha

I've revisited this thread a few times. Certainly nice work. I'm in agreement with Fred - you need to emphasis the SII data. Its probably there, so doubt you need to acquire more, but weight it differently to the other channels. Look forward to seeing more of your NB imaging adventures.

Extra red would be nice and I know how that works. Its happened to me several times with narrowband. I simply didn't get enough exposure time with S11. S11 is often very faint and needs longer exposure. Fred would know better than me on that as he's the narrowband dude.

I have also found that the red in the S11 comes out more with a different approach to combining. When you start with an Ha image in Photoshop and assign the already aligned S11 to red and the O111 to the green channels you get a more balanced and "typical" narrowband look than if you do a colour combine with Ha green, S11 red and O111 blue in say CCDstack. That gives a much more green look (Ha is always so dominant and the strongest signal).

Perhaps also the S11 and O111 are best done 2x2 binning to boost the signal to noise ratio and longer exposure times than the Ha to overcome noise like 20 or 30 mins versus 10 or 15 mins for Ha. Of course this puts stress on the accuracy of your guiding and polar alignment and balance.
